safepitching4youth.com Resources for Developing Pitchers |

This website was developed to serve
as an educational resource and clearinghouse for information on safe and
proper pitching programs and mechanics for coaches, parents and youth
athletes. As a project of the Kansas City Youth Pitching Academy (KCYPA),
safepitching4youth.com is dedicated to helping reduce the number and
severity of injuries youths sustain pitching a baseball. As a pitching coach of a youth baseball team, my observation over the last couple years is that for every kid that has a good swing, there are several more that have improper throwing mechanics. When combined with overuse, I believe it's a major reason we're seeing more and more arm injuries at a young age. KCYPA was born out of a strong desire to help coaches, parents and young athletes. I see kids being taught how to swing a bat without any attention to how they throw a baseball. I see kids throwing 80 to 90 pitches one day only to be back on the mound with only one day of rest (sometimes the next day). I see kids needing elbow surgery at the age of 13. The frustrating part is that it's an easy problem to fix. It starts with education and an awareness of the physical limitations of youth athletes. Simply, that's why I started KCYPA and developed the safepitching4youth.com website. Please understand that I'm not putting myself out there as an expert in pitching. I enjoy coaching pitchers and catchers and I'm always looking to others for advice and counsel. The information contained in this website is often that of other people's work (and it's referenced accordingly). I'm only trying to provide a central location for this information, making it easier to access. I would love to get your feedback. If you have any stories, thoughts, ideas, etc. that you would like to share, please contact me at rbarker@kcyouthpitching.com. Russ |
